Use and Maintenance

Technical
Our floors are made of wood, an ancient building material and a living raw material.Sunlight, temperature, humidity and daily use can over time modify or alter the structure of the parquet, which is protected on the surface by water-based finishes.
Itlas floors are made of wood, the oldest building material. An extraordinary raw material, which is constantly renewed: wood is alive and for this reason those who buy a wooden floor must keep in mind that its structure can be modified or altered over time by some external agents to which it is subjected, such as sunlight, temperature, humidity, daily use.

The surface finish used is an important protection for the wooden floor. Continuous walking, if combined with poor and incorrect periodic maintenance, can negatively affect the appearance of the wood, which over time may appear dull and impoverished. Itlas uses water-based finishes, perfectly compatible with even intense foot traffic, especially in the presence of structural surface treatments.

To keep your wooden floor in good condition, it is advisable to carefully follow the advice given in this section.
01
The product must be stored in dry environments, with intact packaging. The packaging must be removed only at the time of installation, which must be carried out with windows and doors installed and plaster dry.
02
The humidity of the subfloor must not exceed 2% by weight for normal or fast-drying cementitious screeds, 1.7% for heated screeds and 0.5% for anhydrite screeds. The humidity must be checked with a carbide hygrometer immediately before installation. The choice of the type of installation is always decided by the customer and the site management based on the needs and the technical and commercial evaluations made beforehand. In the event that the choice of the type of installation is not considered suitable by the installer for technical reasons related to the site, the customer hereby releases the manufacturer from any liability.
03
Despite careful quality controls, individual planks may have characteristics that are not appropriate for the product's appearance class and that have been overlooked during selection or considered to be of little importance. The installer must be aware of this possibility, which cannot be excluded with a purely natural product such as parquet, and must therefore calculate a 5% waste for cuts and offcuts. For an optimal aesthetic effect, it is important to lay the planks on the ground and make a selection and mixing before the final installation. The installation must be carried out by professionals and all measurements must be documented.
04
The operating environmental humidity must be between 45% and 60% at a temperature between 15°C and 25°C.
05
Different environmental conditions from those indicated on the product sheet can cause the appearance of more or less evident cracks, ripples and micro-fractures (bristles) which cannot be considered defects but normal adjustments to the environment. In extreme cases, even detachment can occur.
06
Being wood a natural material, there are chromatic or grain differences that make each plank different from the others. Therefore, samples or photos must be regarded as indicative and not binding. Moreover, at the time of the supply the flooring can be evidently different from samples previously seen – the exposure to light and air causes wood to become generally darker and more even. For this reason, it is recommendable not to cover the flooring for some time after installation
07
Wooden floors can be dented or scratched by bumps or falling objects, by applying concentrated loads on small surfaces such as high heels, ladders, etc., small objects such as nails or pebbles present under the soles of shoes. The eventual surface painting has a protective action, but does not prevent the above.
08
Some wooden elements may have brighter streaks called "mirrors" depending on the wood species
09
Our parquets are compatible with daily use, especially in products with superficial structural processing
10
Any liquids and fine dust should be removed promptly to prevent the appearance of stains and halos.
11
Splinters or flaking of the wood are possible characteristics of wood structural interventions such as brushing, planing, and sawing.
