Italy’s green excellence and future vision explored in Alessandro Macciò’s new book

ITLAS is among the thirty companies highlighted in "Elettrificare per crescere" (Electrify to Grow), a new book by journalist Alessandro Macciò, recently published by Post Editori. The book delves into the transformation undertaken by Italian businesses, as the author – a long-time observer of economic trends and Italian enterprise stories – explores the challenges faced, the technological solutions adopted, and the courage of entrepreneurs who have embraced decarbonization not just as a necessity, but as a genuine opportunity for growth, despite the difficulties.

The book's introduction points out that a significant 88 percent of Italians believe the country has fallen short of European transition targets. In reality, Italy surpassed these goals back in 2014. Furthermore, 76 percent of Italians are unaware that Italy is a leader in energy efficiency within Europe. Not only that, Italy possesses all the necessary skills and capabilities to navigate the shift, and the progress is such that already 40 percent of the electricity consumed by Italians comes from renewable sources.

"Elettrificare per crescere" (Electrify to Grow) therefore narrates the success stories – of multinational corporations as well as small and medium-sized enterprises like ITLAS – demonstrating that innovation and environmental respect can go hand in hand. Through direct testimonials, the book offers practical insights and valuable examples for all entities embarking on a decarbonization journey.

Electrification is presented as a crucial element in reducing CO2 emissions. Above all, electricity from renewable sources is highlighted as essential for sustainable economic growth. From photovoltaic systems to heat pumps and the modernization of production processes, the companies interviewed by Macciò recount and demonstrate how the adoption of innovative technologies can lower CO2 emissions while simultaneously enhancing competitiveness.

Macciò dedicates a final chapter of his book to the prospects of the transition and the role that businesses can play in this context, especially in light of the global transformation following Donald Trump's arrival at the White House and the United States' backtracking on climate and environmental policies pursued by the previous administration. The European response is also considered. "Despite representing a setback for global cooperation against climate change, the US withdrawal from the Paris Agreement does not seem capable of halting the economic and social forces pushing towards a more sustainable future," states the author. He argues that the challenge for Europe and other countries is to "intensify efforts for the energy transition, seizing the moment to strengthen their competitiveness and lead the change at a global level."
